The Community JusticeCenter is a commons that supports positive change in the community.
The Queensbridge Community Justice Center is committed to finding better solutions to the problem of justice. By focusing on core issues that support successful, and occasionally non traditional, approaches to justice and resolution, we reflect the community’s values while diverting people from the traditional justice system with the goal of ultimately influencing the system.
Floor Plan & Section
The main volume of space includes the Library + Court functions, organized around an inner atrium and oriented to the Queensbridge Houses. All support functions and cores wrap around two sides.
Program Stacking
Institutions and services in the neighborhood were surveyed and the center was programmed with a mind towards making it an anchor, or landmark—justice programming would be merged with a Library, linking access to information and learning to perceptions of justice.
The project is proposed to be located in an old four-story, 90,000 sq ft former factory at a“gateway” to the Queensbridge Houses.
